Anderson stood as the Premier Basketball League's leading scorer and assist man, before leaving the Millrats two weeks ago to pursue an overseas opportunity.
"It was great to have him back, our team seems to play with more confidence knowing he's leading the charge," stated Millrats General Manager Ian McCarthy. "We've been in this situation before and for whatever reason we hadn't gotten Anthony the ball, but tonight we did."
Manchester maintained a lead throughout the first three quarters, but Vermont stayed nipping at their heels. The Millrats lead stood at 90-80 with 9:30 to go in the game, before Vermont reeled off a 13-0 run and took their own lead at 93-90.
Manchester hung tough while Vermont's offense was kicking into overdrive. Julian Allen drilled a three pointer to break a 106-106 tie. Anthony Anderson then added two free throws after Vermont's Troy Jackson hit one, to make it 111-107 with 37 seconds left.
Vermont's Ross Dimasi scored in the paint quickly and then Vermont converted a turnover by Manchester into a layup by Dwuan Rice, and suddenly the game was tied again at 111-111 with 3.1 seconds left.
After a timeout, Julian Allen inbounded to a curling Anderson who drove baseline and his high arching shot over several Frost Heaves was the game winner.
Eric Gilchrese led Manchester with 20 points, while Anderson poured in 19 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Julian Allen and Charles Bronson had 17 each, and Tyrece Gibbs 12. Stanley Ocitti was a difference-maker with 13 rebounds and 5 blocks to go with his 9 points. Dwuan Rice led all scorers with 27.
With the win, Manchester improves to 4-8 on the season and Vermont drops to 3-6. Manchester maintains its perfect record against Vermont at Southern New Hampshire University.
