The Manchester Millrats are pleased to announce that Charles Easterling, also known as 'The Beast', has joined the team.
Raised in Hartford, Connecticut, he attended Bulkeley and Weaver High Schools. As a 6'2" 220lb point guard
, he was the only Connecticut state player to lead two different schools to State Championships.
Coined "The Beast" for his uncanny ability to overpower and steal the ball from much taller opponents, he was named 1st Team All-State his junior and senior years in high school, and 1st Team All-New England his senior year. He then played for Kilgore College in Texas where he averaged 17ppg, 8 rpg, and 6 apg in 2003.
Easterling claims that he's "hungry for the ball this year." When asked why he loves basketball, Easterling replied, "I can't even explain it. It's something that eats at me. When the game starts, I let it come to me."
Easterling played for Guerreros in Mexico in 2007. He also played for multiple pro-am leagues in the northeast, and last summer played in the Rucker Summer League in NYC, where he competed against top NBA
and professional players, averaging 27 ppg. He had a short stint with the Millrats in 2007-2008 before moving to the Boston Blizzard.
His performances at the Hartford Pro-Am summer league are now the stuff of legend, where in one game he posted 59 points in three quarters against teams featuring NBA players. Minnesota Timberwolves forward Ryan Gomes
said of Easterling "No player I have played against can cover Charles effectively one on one."
The Millrats host the Lawton-Fort Sill (OK) Cavalary on Tuesday night at 7:00PM at Hesser College in Manchester. The Cavalry (5-2) are coached by former NBA All Star, Michael Ray Richardson.
Tickets are available online or at the door, but seating is limited and available on a first come, first serve basis.
